Donnelly won re-election in the 2012 election for California State Assembly District 33. Due to redistricting following the 2010 census, he was displaced from District 59. He advanced past the June 5, 2012, blanket primary, defeating William Jahn (R). Donnelly defeated John Coffey (D) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
