Toby Ann Stavisky is a Democratic member of the New York State Senate, representing District 16 since 1999 and currently serving as Vice Chair of the Majority Conference. She was Assistant Minority Whip from 2003 to 2008.

Stavisky was District Manager for Northeast Queens for the 1980 Census. She has also worked in the Actuarial Department for an Insurance Company. She has been a Social Studies Teacher for New York City High Schools as well.

Stavisky earned her BA from Syracuse University. She went on to receive her MA from Queens College. She then earned her MA from Hunter College.

Stavisky ran in the 2012 election for New York State Senate District 16. She defeated John A. Messer in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. She also ran on the Working Families Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Stavisky defeated J.D. Kim (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [1][2]
