Tom Sawyer is a Democratic member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing District 95 from 1987 to 1998, 2003 to 2009, and currently since 2013.

Sawyer, who earned a BBA from Wichita State University, is the owner of Tom Sawyer Accounting Services. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1980, Segwick County Clerk from 1984-1985, and ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Kansas in 1998.[1]

Issue positions

Sawyer's website lists his legislative priorities as education, health care, good paying jobs, a fair tax system, safe community, and open government.[2]

He refused to take Project Vote Smart's 2008 Political Courage Test. The test, which is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices, asks one central question - "Are you willing to tell citizens your positions on the issues you will most likely face on their behalf?"[3]

Sawyer's answers to the Kansas Gubernatorial Election 1998 National Political Awareness Test are available.

Sawyer won election in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 95. He was unopposed in the August 7 Democratic primary and defeated incumbent Benny Boman (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[5][6][7]
