Tracy McCreery is a former Democratic member of the Missouri House of Representatives, representing District 83 from winning a special election on November 8, 2011 to January 5, 2013. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Jake Zimmerman (D) resigned after winning an election to become St. Louis County assessor.[1] McCreery was elected as an independent, but ran as a Democrat in the 2012 election.[2][3]

McCreery has worked in various fields, including consumer healthcare, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications. She has also worked as an aid for Sen. Joan Bray (D), a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood, an event planner for Citizens for Missouri’s Children, and an Associate Director for the National Abortion Rights Action League. She is married to her husband, Thom.[4]

Campaign themes

On her 2011 campaign website, McCreery discussed her qualifications and goals:

  • "I have always sought to put people first, both professionally and as a community volunteer. I served as Senator Joan Bray’s district aide for 8 years. Before that I worked in Governor Bob Holden’s administration. My invaluable experience in both the executive and legislative branches means that I can hit the ground running and will be an effective legislator on Day One."
