H. Truman Chafin (b. July 10, 1945) is a Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate, and the Senate Majority Leader. He has been a Senator since 1982, representing the 6th district.

Education

Chafin has attended both the University of Michigan and Detroit College of Law. He earned his BBA from Marshall University. He then went on to earn his JD from Emory University.

Professional experience

Chafin has served as a judge for the City of Williamson. He currently works as an attorney.

Political experience

Chafin's political career began with his service as President of the Mingo County Commission from 1981 to 1982. Chafin went on to become a senator in the West Virginia State Senate in 1982. He became Majority Leader in 1998 and currently serves in that position. Chafin represents the 6th district.

Chafin is married to Letitia Neese. They have three children.

Senator Chafin has made a Freedom of Information Act request from the state Division of Transportation. He is looking for details of how federal dollars awarded to the West Virginia Turnpike toll-road are being disbursed. He suspects that while "the toll road drew down millions in federal dollars, the money was spent on other highway projects, and not the maintenance and upkeep of the turnpike". [1]
