The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run is June 5, 2012. The primary elections will be held on August 11, 2012.
The election will fill the Class 1 Senate seat, which is currently held by Daniel Akaka (D). First elected in 1990, Akaka is not running for re-election in United States Senate elections, 2012.

Election history
2010
On November 2, 2010, Daniel Inouye won re-election to the United States Senate. He defeated Cam Cavasso (R), Jim Brewer (G), Lloyd Jeffrey Mallan (L), and Jeff Jarrett (I) in the general election.[11]
2006
Daniel Akaka won re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2006.[12]
