The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run is June 12, 2012. On January 27, 2012, Judge Gary Sharpe moved the primary date from September 11, 2012 to June 26, 2012 in order to allow for sufficient time to send absentee ballots to military voters.[1]
The election will fill the Class 1 Senate seat, which is currently held by Kirsten Gillibrand (D). First appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2009, Gillibrand is running for re-election in 2012.
