To all active contributors: I've made a template to put on the pages of ballot measures that will not appear on the ballot. To apply it, you type no at the beginning of the article.

I am also encouraging everyone to remove category tags at the bottom of 2008 articles that say "2008 ballot measures" and "NAME OF STATE ballot measures" and replace those with these category tags:

 •
 •

Both of those categories will become subcategories of the bigger categories.

Why did I do this?

 • I believe it is helpful to the reader to immediately see at a glance that a ballot measure is not going to be on the ballot.
 • The Category:2008 ballot measures category has nearly 600 articles in it right now--most of which will not actually be on the ballot. If we take out the ones that aren't going to be on the ballot, we make the category more meaningful.

Please check it out and see if you agree with the change.January 15:27, 2 July 2008 (EDT)

Thank you! See how it looks on my page Musical 08:15, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

Hi Kristin, Could you take a look at these, tweak them and then turn them into templates when you have some time? Thanks!

Hi again Kristinpedia.

Although Ballotpedia does not yet have a "stub" template, I do think it would be a good idea to place this tag on articles, or in sections of articles, that are incomplete. This is a way of letting the casual reader know that the knowledge-builders at Ballotpedia realize that the article is incomplete, and to invite their participation.

This page or section is under construction. See Getting Started on Ballotpedia.

Here's an example of what this looks like on a page: Wisconsin Question One (2006) MMH 10:47, 16 December 2007 (PST)

Kristinpedia--I've started an article on ballot titles. You can wikify anything you write that has that word in it. Also, the article needs lots of development.MMH 06:35, 16 December 2007 (PST)

Hello, Kristinpedia. I would be glad to help build up the section of articles on Ballotpedia about Florida ballot initiatives. If you put links on my user talk page to 5-6 articles you'd like me to be responsible for, I will get that done by the end of the year, at the latest.January 13:13, 13 December 2007 (PST)

I finished Florida Comprehensive Health Care Service for All Persons (2008)January 12:49, 14 December 2007 (PST) There were two basically identical measures listed on the Florida 2008 ballot measures page, so I just deleted the one that the Michael Sahm began two years before this one. Except for when they were filed, they are otherwise identical.

I'd like to invite you to participate in this grand project. Laylaw 00:04, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

Organizing the Ballotpedia law project

How Can I Contribute?

State laws governing initiatives

 • For every I&R state, there is an article about its laws governing the initiative. These articles should all be checked and improved.
 • One way to improve our law articles is to include more historical material about how initiative laws in the I&R states have changed over time.
 • Articles about specific statutes, such as those collected in Changes in 2007 to laws governing the initiative process. We should improve these articles where possible and make sure that the state I&R law articles incorporate the latest information.

Ballot access law cases

 • Add redlinks to articles about court cases we haven't covered yet.
 • Write articles about red-linked court cases.
 • Add to and improve existing court case articles.

Let's finish by the end of May 2008

Main page png 130 kb

Dear Kristinpedia,

Thanks for following up on my Main Page talk suggestion. Your version of the graphic is attractive, and your imagemap is good, but your PNG compression is 130 kb to be sent each time the main page is accessed. A .jpg file saved from Gimp is 37 kb, and my file, at the smaller 400px size used previously, was only 18.8 kb. I think it will be worth taking a moment to optimize your compression.
