Van Braxton was a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. He represented District 10 from 2007-2011.

Braxton owned a tire store, worked as a farm manager and is currently an insurance agent. He is married to Sandra.

Braxton was defeated in the November 2, 2010 general election. He had no primary opposition but lost to Stephen Laroque (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[1]

Campaign

Braxton is also trailing LaRoque in polling from May and September. Braxton answered questions about how to handle the state's impending budget shortfall and did not rule out extending the state's temporary one-cent sales tax. [2]

Election lawsuit

LaRoque filed a defamation lawsuit against Braxton on October 4, 2010. The lawsuit alleges Braxton sent campaign mailers falsely accusing LaRoque of illegal business activities. The mailers also claim LaRoque stole a man's business and home through a foreclosure filing.[3]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Braxton won re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives.[4] $241,480 was raised for this campaign.[5]
