Swanson won re-election in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 64. Swanson ran unopposed in the August 7 Republican primary and defeated Philip Breitmeyer (L) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[3][4]

Swanson won re-election to the 64th District seat in 2010 with no opposition. In the August 3rd primary election, Swanson defeated Republican primary opponent Michael Musselman by a margin of 1,553 to 1,236. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.[5]
