Verna L. Jones-Rodwell (b. November 27, 1955) is a Democratic member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 44. She was first elected to the chamber in 2002.

Jones-Rodwell has served as a Assistant Deputy Majority Whip since 2014. She served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1998 to 2003.


Jones-Rodwell earned her B.A .in Urban Studies from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1978 and her M.P.A. from the City University of New York Baruch College in 1987. Her professional experience includes working as a Special Assistant to the City Manager of the City of Berkeley, California, Director of Market Development for the Development Training Institute, and Founder and President of Collaborative Solutions.

Elections for the office of Maryland State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Incumbent Verna Jones-Rodwell was defeated by Shirley Nathan-Pulliam in the Democratic primary. Bernie Reiter was unopposed in the Republican primary. Nathan-Pulliam defeated Reiter in the general election.[1][2]
