Viola Hughes was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House representing the 2nd Congressional District of New Jersey. She lost in the Democratic primary.[1]

Hughes is the former mayor of Fairfield Township. She ran against Frank LoBiondo in 2006.[2]

Hughes emphasized during the campaign that Congress should put more effort into increasing employment. "I think we need to defer social issues. One way we can help the economy right now is bringing more infrastructure, especially in the South Jersey area," she said.[3]
