Virgil Smith is a Democratic member of the Michigan State Senate, representing District 4 since January 1, 2011. He is currently serving as State Senate Assistant Minority Whip. Prior to his time in the Senate, Smith served three terms as a Representative in the Michigan House of Representatives. He served from 2002 to 2008.

Smith is an entrepreneur and small business owner. He is the President of Virgil Smith LLC, and Partner at Auto Executives LLC.

Smith earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Michigan State University in 2002. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University.
