The 3rd congressional district of Virginia will hold an election for the U.S. House of Representatives on November 6, 2012.
This is the 3rd congressional district prior to the 2012 redistricting.

Candidates wishing to run must file by the signature filing deadline March 29, 2012. The primary elections will be held on June 12, 2012.

Heading into the election the incumbent is Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D), who was first elected to the House in 1992.

Following the results of the 2010 Census, Virginia was redistricted in order to more evenly distribute representation among the population.

On November 2, 2010, Robert Scott won re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, defeating C.L. "Chuck" Smith, Jr. (R), John D. Kelly (I), James J. Quigley (L), and a write-in.[3]
