Walter Whitcomb is the Maine Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. He was appointed in August 2012. Whitcomb was previously appointed as the Maine Commissioner of Agriculture by Gov. Paul LePage in January 2011.

On August 30, 2012, the Department of Agriculture, along with the Department of Conservation, were merged into the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.[1]

Biography

Whitcomb is co-owner and farmer of Springdale Jerseys. He is past president of the Maine Dairy Industry Association and served as chairman of the Maine Farm Service Agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Whitcomb lobbied for dairy farmers in Washington and served in the Maine State Legislature from 1984-1996.[2][3]
