The official ballot title for I-1042 said, "Initiative Measure No. 1042 concerns charges relating to motor vehicles. This measure would set annual motor vehicle fees at $30 total, repeal or reduce certain taxes and fees, require voter approval for certain tax or fee increases, and require retirement of certain bonds."
I-1042 was similar to another initiative filed by Eyman, the Washington Vehicle Tax Initiative I-1036 (2009).
Ballot measure summary
According to the description prepared by the Washington Secretary of State:
- "This measure would set basic vehicle license charges at $25 annually, plus a $5 filing fee. Certain taxes and fees would be repealed or reduced. Government-imposed fees and taxes on vehicles would take effect only if approved by voters in an election. The measure would require certain transportation authority bonds to be retired, and the taxes pledged to repay these bonds would be discontinued on their retirement date or March 31, 2010, whichever occurs first."
