Death with Dignity is a Washington proposed initiative that will legalize assisted suicide. Only terminally ill, mentally competent adults can use the law, and their condition must be validated by two physicians.

Overview

In 1991, Initiative 119, a similar measure failed. The current initiative will mimic legislation passed in Oregon and be held to a stricter standard.

Support

Political consultant Christian Sinderman and Seattle-based Democratic consultant, Blair Butterworth, are working on the campaign.

Status

The initiative will launch in January when it will be submitted to the Secretary of State and Attorney General's office. If approved petitions will begin circulation in early February.
