Washington Charter Schools, Initiative 177 (1996)

November 5, 1996 election ballot in Washington as an Initiative to the Legislature, where it was defeated.The question asked on the ballot was, "Shall voters be authorized to create "renewed" school districts where nonprofit organizations may operate publicly-funded "independent" public schools with parental choice and revised state regulation?"
Four years later, voters also defeated the Charter Schools Act, Initiative 729.
