The Washington No Recreational Marijuana Taxes on Medical Marijuana Measure, Initiative 1350 is not on the November 4, 2014 ballot in Washington as an Initiative to the People. The measure would have stipulated that any taxes on recreational marijuana must not be applied to medical marijuana. It would also have reaffirmed other medical marijuana laws, including Initiative 692 from 1998.[1]

Initiative Measure No. 1350 concerns medical marijuana.

This measure would state that taxes on recreational marijuana must not apply to medical marijuana and would reaffirm existing medical marijuana statutes.

Ballot measure summary

The official ballot summary read as follows:[1]

This measure states that taxes on recreational marijuana must not apply to medical marijuana. It would amend certain existing statutes governing medical marijuana by making nonsubstantive changes, such as substituting the word “marijuana” for the word “cannabis.” It states that it would reaffirm Initiative 692 and other statutes related to medical marijuana.[2]

Support

This measure proposal was primarily sponsored by Chris Barten, Director of First Step in Kent, Washington, a medical marijuana card provider.[1]

Supporters were required to collect at least 246,372 valid signatures by July 3, 2014 in order to land the initiative on the ballot. No signatures were submitted by the prescribed deadline.
