Issues

Campaign Themes

2010

Meredith's website talks about the following issues:[2]

  • Jobs
Excerpt: "We must create an environment that encourages business growth, and restores our job market. I understand that the best way to achieve this is to lower taxes, reduce the paralyzing government regulations, and let businesses compete in a free and fair market."
  • Taxes
Excerpt: "I have always voted against every tax increase, and will continue to do so. I firmly believe that our hardworking residents deserve to be able to keep more of what they earn."
  • Foolish Spending
Excerpt: "We have to stop this foolish spending, and do what every other North Carolinian has to do—live within our means."
  • Education
Excerpt: "We must fund our schools, give our teachers the resources they need to do their jobs, and give our children the opportunity to learn…bottom line."

No-New-Taxes Pledge

Nine of North Carolina’s 45 incoming freshman state legislators signed a pledge to "oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes." The pledge was in line with each of their campaign promises to fix the state’s fiscal hole without resorting to tax hikes. At the time they signed the pledge, North Carolina was looking at a budget deficit as high as $4 billion in 2011.

Meredith signed the pledge in November 2010.[3]
