William Dotzler is a Democratic member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 31 since 2013 and serving as Assistant Majority Leader. He was first elected to the chamber in 2002. He previously served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1996 to 2002.

Dotzler earned his B.A. in Biology from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975. His professional experience includes working as President of Waterloo Visiting Nursing Association, and Machine Operator and Labor Representative for John Deere & Company. He served in the United States Army Security Agency in Military Intelligence from 1969 to 1972.
