William R. Laird IV (b. June 3, 1952) is a Democratic member of the West Virginia State Senate, representing District 10. He was first elected to the chamber in 2008. He was named State Senate Majority Whip in January 2013.[1]

Laird served in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1996 to 1998.

Biography

Laird attended American University. He went on to earn his MA from Marshall University. He then received his BA from Concord College.

Laird worked as Sheriff of Fayette Count from 1989 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2008. He has also worked as a hospital administrator. Laird is a former president/CEO of Montgomery General Hospital. He also has experience as Magistrate for Fayette County.[2]

Laird's political experience began with his work as Deputy Director/Assistant Commissioner in Budget and Administration for the West Virginia Department of Corrections. He has also worked as Director in Budget and Administration for the Office of Attorney General.
