William Wooton (b. September 20, 1944) is a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates. He has represented District 27 since 2008. Previously, Woodton served in the West Virginia State House of Delegates from 1976 to 1986 and again from 1988 to 1990. During this time he served as both Majority Whip and Majority Leader. From 1990 to 2000, he served in the West Virginia State Senate. Wooton had served as Assistant Attorney General for West Virginia from 1972 to 1974.

Wooton attended the West Virginia University College of Law. He went on to earn his BBA from Marshall University. He then received his JD from Ohio University.

Wooton has served in the West Virginia Army National Guard and in the United States Army Reserved as a Colonel. He has also worked as Assistant Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney from 1976 to 1977.[1]

Wooton is running for re-election to the West Virginia House of Delegates District 27. He is one of nine candidates running for the five District 27 Delegate positions on the ballot in the November 2, 2010 general election. The five top vote-getters are elected. [2]

2008

In 2008 Wooton was elected to the West Virginia House District 27. Wooton (D) finished with 14,962 vote. He was behind Linda Sumner (R) with 17,218 votes and Rick Moye (D) with 15,918 votes. Wooton finished ahead of Sally Matz Susman (D) with 14,894 votes, Virginia Mahan (D) with 12,877 votes, Louis Gall (D) with 12,415 votes, Jeffrey Peck (R) with 11,313 votes, Dereck Severt (R) with 10,348 votes, Philip Stevens (R) with 9,874 votes and Kevin Honaker (R) with 9,147 votes.[3] Wooton raised $41,088 for his campaign fund.[4]

Wooton and his wife, Shir Wenzel, have three children.
