Trump indictments
Democratic candidates
Joe Biden
In a campaign speech Biden said, "Folks, for the first time in American history, a former President that is a convicted felon is now seeking the office of the presidency. But as disturbing as that is, more damaging is the all-out assault Donald Trump is making on our system of justice [...] an all-out assault that is being supported by the Republican Party — not because he was convicted but the way he tries to undermine the system." Kamala D. Harris
Harris' campaign website said, "Vice President Harris believes that no one is above the law. She’ll fight to ensure that no former president has immunity for crimes committed while in the White House." [source, as of 2024-09-09]
Republican candidates
Asa Hutchinson
In an op-ed Hutchinson said, "Over the last eight years, we — as a party and as a nation — have forgotten the type of individual our forefathers intended the president of the United States of America to be. We have forgotten what it’s like to live under the leadership of a president who looks forward, leads by example, instinctively puts the country before the party and has no issue setting ego aside to get things done. The actions taken by former President Donald Trump demonstrate that he has chosen not to govern by honoring our shared conservative values. Instead, he has undermined the fabric of our democracy by questioning the outcome of the 2020 election and using violent rhetoric to stir protesters on January 6, 2021." [source, as of 2023-05-02]
Vivek Ramaswamy
In a Republican debate, Ramaswamy said, "We’re skating on thin ice and we cannot set a precedent where the party in power uses police force to indict its political opponents. It is wrong. We have to end the weaponization of justice in this country." [source, as of 2023-08-23]
Donald Trump
Trump's campaign website said, "The legal double-standard set against President Trump must end. Under the Crooked Biden Cartel, there are no rules for Democrats, while Republicans face criminal charges for exercising their First Amendment rights. These activities by Democrat leaders constitute a grave threat to American democracy and are direct attempts to deprive the American people of their rightful choice to cast their vote for President. Call it election interference or election manipulation—it is a dangerous effort by the ruling class to suppress the choice of the people. It is un-American and wrong. They are taking away President Trump’s First Amendment right to free speech, and the right to challenge a rigged and stolen election that the Democrats do all the time. The ones who should be prosecuted are the ones who created the corruption." [source, as of 2023-12-21]
