501(c)(10) is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax exemption status that applies to "domestic fraternal societies, orders, or associations that operate under the lodge system ... devote their net earnings exclusively to religious, charitable, scientific, literary, educational and fraternal purposes [and] do not provide for the payment of life, sick, accident, or other benefits."[1]

501(c)(10) entities are not required to provide benefits to their members, but may choose to offer elective insurance coverage through an independent insurance company. 501(c)(10) organizations must originate and operate within the United States[2]
