8 magistrate judge posts cut by state Supreme Court

Pennsylvania: On Tuesday, February 15, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court approved of a plan that will cut 8 magistrate judge positions across the state. The posts being cut are either vacant or due to be vacated when the cuts take effect in 2010, according to the Supreme Court. The cuts will affect the counties of Allegheny, Berks, Delaware, Lackawanna, Northumberland, Schuylkill and Snyder. In Allegheny County, two positions are being eliminated and they are the positions currently held by Judge Ross C. Cioppa and Judge Regis C. Welsh, Jr. Judge Thomas H. Xavios's position in Berks will be cut. In Snyder County, Judge Edward Mihalik, Jr.'s position, one he has serve don since the seat's creation, will be eliminated.[1]
