A. Kathleen Tomlinson was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She was appointed to this position on February 24, 2006.[1][2] Tomlinson's service ended on October 17, 2021, upon her death.[3]

Biography

Education

Judge Tomlinson was born in 1948. She received her B.A. degree from Rutgers University in 1972 and her M.A. degree from Long Island University in 1975. She earned her law degree from St. John's University Law School in 1987.[2][4][5]

Professional career

After graduating from Long Island University, Ms. Tomlinson became an academic administrator there. She worked in this position for 14 years before earning her law degree. From 1988 to 1991, she worked as a staff attorney for the Nassau County Legal Aid Society. She worked as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Arthur Spatt before joining the law firm Farrell Fritz, P.C. She became a partner of this firm in 1997, and she worked in this capacity until her judicial appointment in 2006. She has also served as counsel to the Eastern District's Board of Judges Grievance Committee and as a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel.[4][6][5]
