Biography
Aaron Andrus earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from McNeese State University in 1996 and a masters in pastoral studies from Loyola University New Orleans in 2006. His professional experience includes working operations in maritime industry. His organizational affiliations include the Libertarian Party of Calcasieu Parish, the Propeller Club of the United States, and the Ports of SWLA.[1]

If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

Free trade and civil liberties.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
Currently, Congressman Justin Amash. He is an honest, principled libertarian who serves his office with dignity.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
The Bill or Rights of the U.S. Constitution and Adam Smith's "An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations"
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty, integrity, an open mind, a listening ear and a compassionate heart.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
Willingness to listen, speak and find common ground.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To adhere to the Constitution and always act in the best interests of constituents - particularly when voting on how to spend their money.
What legacy would you like to leave?
Small limited government and a prosperous society built on mutual respect and voluntary association.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
I was extremely young, but I remember watching cartoons and seeing images of the Fall of Saigon.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I was a waiter at a family owned Cajun restaurant. I worked that job for 5 years. It's where I met my wife.
What happened on your most awkward date?
LOL..no comment.
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
As a Christian, Easter, because it's when everything changed.
What is your favorite book? Why?
"Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. I loved it as a kid and all of my kids loved it. I've always had a vivid imagination and I identified with Max. I mean, who doesn't want to be in a wild rumpus, right??
If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?
Spiderman, definitely Spiderman.
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
Tie between hand carved Franciscan monk bookends and an icon of Jesus painted on Leather affixed to a stone that my wife bought me for a birthday gift several years ago.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Toxicity - System of Down. (Disorder!)
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
I've had a pretty good life, not perfect, but no real struggles.
What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?
It's where the power of the people is vested. Voter's should take their Congressional choices just as seriously, if not more so, as their selections for the Presidency.
Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?
No, not at all.
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
Runaway debt that is the direct result of both major party's inability to control spending.
If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Ways and Means, Budget, Appropriations
Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?
Yes. To maintain the people's power of representative government, the time frame is sufficient in that it allows them to quickly express their approval or disapproval of their representation.
What are your thoughts on term limits?
I am in favor of term limits.
Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
Justin Amash or Ron Paul.
