Aaron Baker is a father, longtime Brevard resident, and community advocate who spent his first term on City Council fighting for the things that matter most: housing people can afford, a government that listens, and a city that’s prepared for the future.

Aaron’s journey brought him from annual childhood camping trips in Transylvania County and Western North Carolina to graduating from Brevard College, building a career in marketing, and to his first term on Brevard City Council.

He lives in Brevard with his 12-year-old son, Henry, his partner Nora Jane and their cat, Winston. Outside of work and serving on City Council, you can find Aaron biking around town, cooking, or catching up with neighbors at local events.
  • Affordability and Housing: We must protect our community from becoming just another resort town. That means prioritizing housing for locals, promoting local businesses, and balancing tourism with the needs of full-time residents. We will unlock backyard and infill development to meet growing housing needs without losing Brevard’s charm. We will work with local builders to meet the needs of all residents. We must keep Brevard a thriving and diverse mountain town.
  • Transportation and Trails: We're going to complete the Ecusta Trail and use it to power smart, local economic growth — including support for young entrepreneurs and job creation. We're going to re-engage with NCDOT to work alongside them and demand smart and safe streets for all.
  • Modern Small City Government: Just because Brevard is small does not mean we don't deserve nice things. We will finish the job of turning Brevard’s city government into a modern, responsive organization that keeps residents informed and engaged. We will continue to hire and retain talented and professional city staff across all departments that work for our residents.
Housing, Safe Streets, Transparent Government
As the son of a Methodist minister, I lived in six different cities while growing up. While it was challenging, this makes my feelings of 'home' in Brevard that much more meaningful to me. For over two decades, I've called this mountain town home. It's where I'm raising my son, Henry. I'm so thankful to have found my way home to Brevard.
Previous experience in elected office helps but it isn't necessary to be a member of city council. However, a deep knowledge and love for our community is absolutely critical. This includes being active and engaged in local issues long before raising your hand to run for office. It takes a deep commitment to change and a dedication to bettering our city for all.
