Campaign themes

2016

Harris' campaign website listed the following themes for 2016:

  • Economic Development- Chandler has been recognized for its high achieving educational system, high tech employment opportunities, and plentiful amenities. The live, play, and work model, has attracted highly educated residents who have chosen to call Chandler home. Achieving the “All American City” status, highlights our high educational levels and our ability to collaborate and solve problems from within. Our city was founded on innovation and technology and it is imperative to attract employers that continue to align with our founding principles. Chandler is landlocked and approaching build out, so we must continue to be all inclusive in achieving the goals the General Plan. In order to sustain our current levels and maximize our potential, I will provide community leadership that will include on-going assessment and accountability. The completion of the Price Road Corridor, downtown Chandler, and the Airpark will remain one of my top priorities.
  • Commitment to Public Safety and 1st Responders- As a member of the Citizen’s Panel for Review of Police Complaints and Use of Force, I would be remiss to not stress the transparency of our agency and their ability to utilize community input. By completing the city of Chandler's Citizen’s Police Academy, I have increased my knowledge of the different facets of operations within the agency. Despite the changes that have occurred in policing throughout the years, our department has remained committed to protecting and serving its residents. Crime prevention is a shared responsibility that I am committed to devoting the necessary resources that will make our city No. 1 in safety per capita.
  • Education for All- Your investment in education has proven to go beyond expectations as we have the #1 rated school district in AZ. As an educator, I understand first-hand the unique needs of our youth and the daily challenges faced by educators with the current resources available. It is important to stress that your investment into our local school district has exceeded expectations as we are now recognized as having one of the top school districts in the state of Arizona. Serving the needs of our youth is a top priority. We must celebrate and promote high achievements of our school district. Through assessment and planning, I will explore ways to meet the recreational needs of the youth within our city. A well-educated Chandler will lead to a well-educated Arizona![1]
