Biography

Aaron Sewell was born in Hampton, Virginia. He pursued bachelor's degrees in political science at Simpson College and in elementary education at Iowa State University. Sewell's career experience includes working as an elementary school teacher in Ankeny, Iowa.[1]

I am a husband, father, and a teacher. I love being able to help and serve others as much as possible. I have a heart for kids and students and doing what I can so they can live, learn, and laugh each day.
  • We need quality education.
  • A strong economy starts with small businesses.
  • Fiscal responsibility is more than a family budget trait.
Constituent services. I have a lot of professional experience helping people navigate government and solve problems. I love being in position to help others.
Society works best when people work or communicate with each other. In the upper or lower chambers of the legislature we are called upon to present bold ideas, listen to outside thoughts/perspectives, and work with one another.
They need to listen first, seek to bring people together, be able to make tough decisions, and not fear doing what's right.
I listen to others first, try to understand their thoughts and perspective. I communicate my thoughts and ideas well across several mediums. I am always looking to learn and develop as a person so I can better help and understand others.
Be a representative of the people. The ones who voted for you and the ones who didn't. Work with others to keep Iowan's best interest at heart. Service over ego.
I just want to leave positive impacts on as many people as possible. There's a lot of hurt in the world, I hope to spread some love.
The Gulf War. At age 2 I hardly remember much but having a father in the Army Reserves the war topic came up a lot. He was never deployed but he stayed ready.
I worked as a Legislative Assistant in the Missouri House of Representatives. I worked with elected public officials and state residents to solve issues, craft bills, organize meetings, and many other state government task. I did it for two years before moving back to Iowa.
Empire of The Ants. There are so many perspectives and mysteries in the book. Of course growing up I loved reading about ants as well.
Take Me Home, Country Roads.
Knowing I can't help everyone. It's hard to read or see stories about local, national, or international events. I keep reminding myself to do what I can for those I can. Volunteer, donate, every little thing I can do helps.
Serving the people. Iowans need representatives who will work for them. Help their daily lives and work to build a better future.
It can be a huge benefit to have prior government or elected official experience. Having an understanding of the job requirements and how you can serve people is a plus. My experience as a former legislative assistant and current city parks commissioner allows me to have great perspective on serving the people. There are people who have government experience who lose sight of what's important and play political games instead.
