Abigail Aragon is the chief judge of the Fourth Judicial District of New Mexico.[1] She was appointed to court in March 2006 by Governor Bill Richardson.[2] In 2012, Aragon became chief judge. Chief judges serve a three-year term and then the chief position will rotate to a new judge.[3] She was most recently retained in 2014 for a term that expired on December 31, 2020.[4]

Aragon was retained to the 4th District Court with 75.2 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [4]

Education

Aragon received her undergraduate degree from New Mexico Highlands University and her J.D. from the University of New Mexico in 1991.[3][5]

Career

Aragon was appointed to the Fourth Judicial District bench in 2006 by Gov. Bill Richardson. She became the first woman to serve on this court and hold its chief position.[3] Prior to her appointment to the bench, Aragon was in private practice.[3]
