Two seats on the Academy School District 20 Board of Education were scheduled for general election on November 3, 2015. The at-large seats of incumbents Tracey Johnson and Glenn Strebe were up for election.[1][2] Johnson and Strebe were the only candidates to file for the election and both candidates were declared winners by acclamation by the scheduled election date.[3]

Academy School District 20 is located in El Paso County in central Colorado. The county seat of El Paso County is Colorado Springs. El Paso County was home to an estimated 655,044 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[4] Academy School District 20 was the 11th-largest school district in Colorado, serving 23,657 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[5]
Demographics
El Paso County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Colorado in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 35.2 percent of El Paso County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 37.0 percent for the state as a whole. The median household income in El Paso County was $57,125, compared to $58,433 statewide. The poverty rate in El Paso County was 12.4 percent, compared to 13.2 percent for the entire state.[4]

The Academy School District 20 School Board consists of five members, all of whom are elected at-large to four-year terms by the district as a whole. Issue 2C sought to increase city taxes by $50 million annually until December 31, 2020, by instating a temporary 0.62 percent tax on road repairs and improvements.[7]
Issue 2D sought to allow the City of Colorado Springs to retain and spend up to $2.1 million to improve park trails.[8]
