Adam Cunningham is a young black man who decided to run after seeing the social and economic pressures in his community and the stagnation of the state legislature to act on them. He graduated from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2021 and decided to pursue his career in Computer Science while also running for office. Adam is an average person who believes that average people should run for office, not those with career aspirations for power.
  • Planting the seeds of mutual aid in my state!
  • We will raise the minimum wage to $25, the average wage needed to live comfortably in Maryland.
  • Actual leftism and progress within the state legislature is my goal.

On principle, I view everyone as having an equal standing to myself, but if I had to choose someone who made a strong impact in my life, it would be my church pastor, Pastor Oliver Carter. His unrelenting want to help others was one of many factors that led me to what I believe today.

I'd like to build upon the ideas and tactics created by various anarchist groups and apply as many as I can to my life and for the betterment of our communities. From mutual aid and direct action to establishing gift economies, these are all concepts that I would like to live by and would encourage as many as I could to also subscribe to.
People could start with some readings by Murray Bookchin, but they could easily find a lot of his work and others on "The Anarchist Library" website.
Their ability and want to help as all of the downtrodden and be willing to supply help for everyone regardless of their economic or social status.
Anyone running for office at this point need to be willing to challenge the established norms of our system and either effectively point out its flaws or dismantle them entirely.
I'd like to leave a legacy of people who challenge the system we live in, both internally and externally. When I leave this state senate seat, I only hope the next person is just as or even more willing to push for radical policies that will benefit everyone.
The first historical event that I can recall that also largely shaped my ideology was the Housing Market Crisis and the Great Recession. I was about 13 at the time, and my mom had just been laid off from her job. From that point on, we were struggling to make ends meet, which motivated me to start looking for work to try and help my mother pay the bills.
My first unofficial job was walking dogs in my local neighborhood at age 13, which I did for about 2 years. My first official job was as a showroom attendant at Chuck E. Cheese's, which I had for about a year.
Between House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I can't choose between the two. I love sci fi novels, and the House of Suns has a very gripping story filled with intense moments and space stuff galore. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is just hilarious.
I'd probably want to be an Avatar from Avatar: The Last Airbender series of shows, if only because I'd want to use my power over the elements to help people and build things and stuff.

I personally believe that the governorship should be abolished and that the state legislature should be comprised of a horizontal hierarchy of Delegate members only, and that's only if we would like to keep the state legislature as part of our system of governance.
The benefits of a unicameral state legislature are better representation and much less gridlock on important issues. The drawbacks would be that it is a state legislature, therefore it's actions likely would follow the needs of capital rather than the people they are meant to represent.
No I don't, in fact I believe that it is detrimental to the idea of a state legislature that one pursue it as a career, or as part of a career. The state legislature should be run by regular people, because it is those people who know what is best for their communities and not careerist politicians.
I'm ambivalent towards the process of redistricting. The only thing that matters is that people are properly represented and that districts are not gerrymandered or created in any way to benefit one party over another.
I would like to be part of the Finance, Budget and Taxation, and Rules committees.
