Adam Johnson was a candidate for District C representative on the Clark County Board of Trustees in Nevada. Johnson ran for the seat in the primary election on June 14, 2016, and was defeated by Linda Young.[1]

Johnson is the managing director of growth, development, and partnerships for Teach for America. He was a Washington DC corp member in the Teach for America program after spending eight years in the banking industry. Johnson obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics while playing varsity basketball at Saint Michael's College. He went on to earn a master's of business administration from George Washington University.[2]

Four of the seven seats on the Clark County School District school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held on June 14, 2016, for Districts A, B, and C. The District E seat was only on the general election ballot. All four incumbents ran for re-election, and three of them won re-election.[1]

In District A, incumbent Deanna Wright defeated Richard Vaughan after defeating James Gartside, Patricia Krajcech, Mallory Levins, and Shawn Mueller in the primary election. Incumbent Christine Garvey won re-election to the District B seat after obtaining more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary election and defeating challengers Carol McKenzie and Jeffrey Eggman. Evan James originally filed to run for the District B seat, but withdrew from the race before the primary election. Linda Young also won re-election to her seat in the primary election by defeating Antonio Bowen, Russell Davis, Adam Johnson, Walter Jones III, and Mark Melton and garnering more than 50 percent of the vote for the District C seat. District E had the least amount of competition in the race, with challenger Lola Brooks defeating incumbent Margaret Patrice Tew for the seat in the general election. Matthew Tramp withdrew from the District E race, keeping the contest off the primary ballot.[3]

Funding

Johnson reported $48,215.88 in contributions and $36,079.50 in expenditures to the Nevada Secretary of State, which left his campaign with $12,136.38 on hand as of November 2, 2016.[4]

Endorsements

Johnson received official endorsements from the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Clark County Education Association, the Culinary Workers Union, and the Clark County Black Caucus.[5][6][7]
