Silvan discussed why he sought re-election with Micomedia Publications Inc.:

I am excited to be running for re-election for the Jackson Township Board of Education. In my first term the board accomplished many great things, including the start up of a full day kindergarten program in Jackson, the successful replacement of two superintendent positions as well as an assistant superintendent position. I personally was on the negotiations committee for the teachers and teamsters contracts, both which were successful and proved to be beneficial for both sides.[8]
