Adam Weeks (Minnesota)
Adam Weeks (Legal Marijuana Now Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District. He was a candidate in the general election scheduled for November 3, 2020, but died in September 2020. His name still appeared on the ballot.[1]
A special election for Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District was scheduled for February 9, 2021, to be held in lieu of the November 2020 general election after Weeks passed away. On September 28, 2020, Angie Craig (D) filed a lawsuit challenging the election postponement, alleging it violated federal law. On October 9, 2020, Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright ruled that the election should be held in November as originally scheduled and on October 23, 2020, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals declined to suspend the decision.[2][3] On October 27, 2020, the Supreme Court of the United States upheld the ruling from Wright.[4]
