Three seats on the Adams County School District 50 Board of Education were up for general election on November 3, 2015.

The at-large seats of incumbents Ken Ciancio, Ruben Pacheco and Larry Valente were up for election.[1] Ciancio and Valente were seeking re-election against challengers Max Math and Paola Urgiles.[2][3] Incumbent Ruben Pacheco initially filed for re-election before withdrawing from the race on October 6, 2015.[4] Valente and Ciancio were successful in winning re-election and Math won election to the remaining seat.

Adams County School District 50 is located in Adams County in north-central Colorado. The county seat of Adams County is Brighton. Adams County was home to an estimated 469,193 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[5] Adams County School District 50 was the 21st-largest school district in Colorado, serving 10,124 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[6]

Demographics

Adams County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Colorado in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 20.9 percent of Adams County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 37.0 percent for the state as a whole. The median household income in Adams County was $56,270, compared to $58,433 statewide. The poverty rate in Adams County was 14.2 percent, compared to 13.2 percent for the entire state.[5]

Voter and candidate information

The Adams County Board of Education consists of five members who are elected at-large to four-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. Three seats were on the ballot in November 2015.[1]

Individuals interested in running for the board began circulating nominating petitions on August 5, 2015. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the 2015 general election was August 28, 2015, and the filing deadline to serve as a write-in candidate was August 31, 2015.[3]
