My name is Addison Caruso, and I am running for State Representative in District 36 because I see so much potential in our state, but with that potential I see our elected leaders in Columbus squandering it. Ohio has stagnated and we need change in the Statehouse. Republicans in the Statehouse are acting with impunity and disregard for the consequences of their actions. We need to send a message and show them their actions have consequences. We can change the Statehouse and make it work for everyday Ohioans. When I decided to come back to my home in the Dayton area, it was because I saw so much potential here. We have an educated highly skilled workforce. We have wonderful schools. We have great communities and friendly people - yet our economic and population growth has stagnated because the leadership is not asking themselves “what Ohio could be?” They are comfortable with what it is and the status quo. When I see Ohio, I see: (1) A state where property taxes have gone up while money going to schools has gone down; (2) A state with a proud manufacturing history not investing in the new green economy; (3) A state legislature that believes it can pass unpopular proposals, like "permitless carry," and arming teacher and get away with it. We need change and we need to move our state forward. With your help we can flip the district and flip our Statehouse so the legislature works for us all.
  • A child's education and outcome shouldn't be based on their zip code. We must make sure our schools are funded and support alternatives to college, like trade programs and apprenticeships, that give children an opportunity to succeed and drive our economy forward.
  • Energy prices have risen in our state because we are not investing in our grid, and have not provided incentives for green energy. Renewable energy is more affordable and stable, yet many individuals cannot access it because our state is hampering development. We need to invest in energy reform to lower costs for all Ohioans.
  • Housing prices have risen across the state, and the Dayton area is not immune from this. Our state must work with local cities to improve zoning codes that housing can be built and provide programs to help first time home buyers. Owning a home creates generational wealth and leads to investment in communities.
I am passionate about making our government work for every day people. We currently have an unaccountable supermajority that has no incentive to compromise or listen to its citizens. Then, when we try to hold them accountable through fair districting legislation, they pass unconstitutional maps four times so that voters cannot hold them accountable. Accountability and public service are key, and our current state legislator and leadership do not believe in this. I support policies that increase transparency, accountability, and openness. As a state legislature, I would serve the public, and strive to be open and transparent with the members of the district and state. This includes passing policies at the state level that promote open government, fighting for fair maps, and holding regular town halls and listening sessions with members of the district.
