Adele Hedges
Adele Hedges was the chief justice for the Texas Fourteenth District Court of Appeals. She was elected to this court on November 3, 1992[1] and became the Chief Justice in December of 2003.[2] She retired from the court on September 4, 2013.[3][4]
Education
Justice Hedges earned a B.A. degree from the University of Houston in 1968, an M.A. degree from Rice University in 1971, a Ph.D. from Rice University in 1972, and a J.D. degree from the University of Houston School of Law in 1974. [2]
Career
Justice Hedges began her legal career in 1974, practicing in the areas of litigation, real estate, business and banking with Fulbright & Jaworski. In 1978, she joined the Champion Realty Corporation as General Counsel. The following year, she began teaching French at Rice University. She taught through 1980 and then, in 1981, she became General Counsel for the Republic Bank Houston. She joined the firm Porter & Clements (which is now Porter & Hedges) in 1985 and specialized in commercial litigation and appellate work until 1992, when she was elected to the Court of Appeals.[2]
