Ado Machida was the president of International Stability Operations Association, a "partnership of private sector and nongovernmental organizations."[2] Machida was also a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team, a group of advisors tasked with recommending presidential appointments for the incoming administration.[3][4]
Career
Early career
After attending Kyoto University in 1986, Machida worked as a financial analyst for Goldman Sachs until 1989. Shortly thereafter, he took up an associates position with JP Morgan where he worked for less than a year. He then worked for The Larson Company for three years.[1]
Political career
In 1992, Machida served as the assistant to Senate Republican Leader Bob Dole (Kan.). Machida continued working for Dole when he ran for president in 1996. Machida served as the campaign's senior economic policy adviser.[5][1][6]
In 2002, under Vice President Dick Cheney, Machida was appointed deputy assistant to the vice president and director of the Office of Domestic Policy.[6]
Lobbying
Prior to joining the George W. Bush administration and working under Vice President Dick Cheney, Machida worked as a lobbyist with the firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. He rejoined the firm after his tenure at the White House, and then he lobbied for The Kaizen Strategy Group from 2007 to 2009. He was the firm's president and managing principal. He then lobbied for BAE Systems, where he served as vice president of government relations.[1][6] While with BAE, according to Politico, Machida lobbied for groups such as "American Airlines, Time Warner, Walgreens, AT&T, Honeywell, Lucent Technologies, and several Native American tribes."[6]
In 2012, Machida returned to The Kaizen Strategy Group, again, as the firm's president and managing principal. A year later, Machida was appointed president of the International Stability Operations Association (ISOA), a "partnership of private sector and nongovernmental organizations."[2][7]
Donald Trump presidential transition team, 2016-2017
Machida was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team in his first presidential term. The transition team was a group of around 100 aides, policy experts, government affairs officials, and former government officials who were tasked with vetting, interviewing, and recommending individuals for top cabinet and staff roles in Trump's administration. He was tasked with overseeing the policy team.[3]
