Adolfo Tornichio is a judge of the General Division of the Greene County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He was appointed to the court on January 29, 2021 by Gov. Mike DeWine (R) to replace Mike Buckwalter who was elected to another Court of Common Pleas, General Division, judgeship in Greene County.[1]

Selection method

The 391 judges of the Ohio Courts of Common Pleas are all selected in an identical manner. Qualified individuals wishing to join the bench must participate in partisan primary elections followed by nonpartisan general elections.[2]
The chief judges of the Ohio Courts of Common Pleas are chosen by peer vote and serve for one year.[2]
Qualifications
To serve on an appellate or general jurisdiction court, a judge must be:[2]
- a district or county resident (for court of appeals and common pleas judges);
- at least six years practiced in law; and
- under the age of 70.
Under the Ohio Constitution, a judge who reaches 70 years of age may be assigned by the chief justice to active duty, receiving payment on a per-day basis in addition to whatever retirement benefits he or she is entitled to.
Education
Tornichio received a bachelor's degree from Wright State University and a J.D. from the University of Toledo.[3]
Career
Prior to becoming a judge, Tornichio was an assistant prosecutor in Greene County. He joined the prosecutor's office in 1996 and has been working on adult criminal cases since 2003.[3] He was a judge in the Juvenile Division of the Greene County Court of Common Pleas from 2015 after being appointed by then-Gov. John Kasich (R) on September 4 to replace Robert W. Hutcheson, to 2021, when he was appointed to the General Division.
