Aissia Richardson has volunteered with various organizations that address policy issues over the years. In addition to being concerned about improving quality of life across the region, I am a public education and public transit advocate. I served as the Chair of SEPTA's 24- member Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) for three (3) years and am the City of Philadelphia's appointee to the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) Public Participation Taskforce. Among my most recent projects that address quality of life issues in Philadelphia are: Cannabis Opportunities Conference, an international conference held at Temple University’s Medical School focused on inclusion and diversity in the medical marijuana field; Rail Users' Network SEPTA CAC National Conference which brought together the public, consultants, planners and municipality staff to discuss the economic impact of passenger rail; Jazz at Play, a collaborative project between African American Historic preservation sites and majority preservation sites; theAfrican American Historic Preservation Trail Project (AAHPTP), a multi-purpose initiative that focuses on preserving local history, land and buildings. I have traveled extensively across the Delaware Valley learning about rural, urban and suburban living and working with concerned citizens in this region to ensure their voices are heard when public planning is proposed and implemented.

I monitor the Philadelphia Police Department website for crime statistics. I would scale up programs that are working like Group Violence Intervention (GVI).

It’s critical to include constituents in public engagement opportunities. I plan to host public hearings and town halls. I want to conduct listening sessions and have stakeholder meetings regarding policy proposed.
Community Question Featured local question
Government should work for the people. There should be transparency and accountability in how government operates. I would oppose suspending rules to allow public comment on policy.

Transit and Transportation. I support a complete streets approach to transit and transportation infrastructure. Metropolitan areas need to consider multimodal use of streets. Pedestrians, cyclists, and motor vehicles have to share the streets. The city’s infrastructure is old but can be modified to include bike and bus lanes, as well as increasing accessibility with curb cuts.
Community Question Featured local question
Addressing the Homeless crisis. We need to increase shelter beds for the homeless and access to mental health services. There are 75,000 units of affordable housing needed to address the need expressed across the city. The city should be working closely with the Philadelphia Housing Authority to continue to bring affordable units online. Mixed income housing should be supported city-wide. New housing development should have a formula for affordable, workforce and market rate housing.
Community Question Featured local question
Listening session with community members to hear what is important to their neighborhoods.
Community Question Featured local question
I would encourage youth to patrol their neighborhoods to create opportunity for careers in law enforcement.
Community Question Featured local question
I would support $1 billion dollars to remediate lead and asbestos in public schools.

I would support community policing and having a traffic control force to free police officers to address violent crimes.

I would create more education opportunities to understand the effectiveness of the COVID vaccine to address vaccine hesitancy.
Quality, fully funded public education. Provide capital resources for lead and asbestos abatement for public schools. Philadelphia schools need art and music back in the curriculum. In addition, home economics and career technical training needs to occur in every Philadelphia high school. Violence Prevention. Creation of programs to establish neighborhood patrols that employ youth and provide pathways to careers in law enforcement. Funding for afterschool and summer enrichment programs. Increase funding for WorkReady summer employment programs. Create programs for youth to provide social media management tools designed to de-escalate conflict on social media. Business Development. Instituting a tiered approach to business corridor support by funding the creation of corridors, supporting improvement in established corridors and mentorship opportunities between struggling corridors and established ones. Create a One-Stop Shop for Business Support in the city regarding licenses, certifications, taxes and zoning. More resources are needed for affordable housing units, recreation centers, commercial properties, and education facilities. Transit and Transportation. I support a complete streets approach to transit and transportation infrastructure. Metropolitan areas need to consider multimodal use of streets. Pedestrians, cyclists, and motor vehicles have to share the streets. The city’s infrastructure is old but can be modified to include bike and bus lanes.
