My name is Ajmeri Hoque and I’m running for judge on Franklin County Municipal Court. I was born in Bangladesh, and my family moved to the US when I was two years old. We settled in NYC where I spent my formative years. We moved to Columbus in 2002, when I chose to go to Ohio State for College. I graduated from Capital law school in 2010 and took the Ohio and New York bars. I have extensive experience in courtrooms in multiple areas. I was a municipal court prosecutor in Lancaster, where I had over 20 jury trials and 100s of court trials. I am currently a criminal defense attorney and I practice in common pleas, municipal and juvenile courts in multiple counties. While I cannot speak to public policy as a judicial candidate, my prior advocacy work and client representation can speak to my passion for justice, commitment to fairness and dedication to public service.
Judges need to be fair and impartial and they also need to see the humanity of every person who comes in front of them. This is fundamental in my practice, and that is my goal as a Judge.
Growing up, my first job experience was with my parents small business. I helped run the cash register and stock items. I helped my family's small business until I went to college.
Absolutely. My experience as a first generation American and advocating for my clients not only increased my empathy but further entrenched me in my forward thinking beliefs.
