Dr. Khalfani is a change agent, author, and professor, who has a long history of community service. He earned his doctorate in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. Khalfani is currently the Director for the Center for Global Education and Experiences, Director of the Africana Institute and Associate Professor of Sociology at Essex County College. He is the author of, "The Hidden Debate: The Truth Revealed about the Battle over Affirmative Action in South Africa and the United States" and is the co-author of "Introduction to Sociology: Understanding Our Complex World, 4th edition."
Khalfani has been recognized for his community service work by the United States Congress, the California State Senate, the New Jersey State Assembly, and several municipalities in New Jersey. He was the Vice President of the West Orange African Heritage Organization, and he is a Commissioner on the West Orange Human Relations Commission. Khalfani was an Advisor to the UNESCO Center for Global Education and previously served as a member on the Essex-Newark Coalition to End Homelessness.
Khalfani will put his extensive knowledge and experience to work in his role as U.S. Congressman. His platform for progressive change is centered on: Economic Equity and Pandemic Recovery, Criminal Justice/Policing Reform, Healthcare for All, Reparations, Labor and Employment Rights, and Climate Change and Environmental Equity.
  • My Economic Equity and Pandemic Recovery plan calls for holistic steps to develop legislation that produces a recovery plan for all Americans." This means we must evaluate the tremendous toll the pandemic has had on businesses, the workforce, educational institutions, homeowners and renters, and healthcare systems.
  • Criminal Justice - I will fight to humanize police practices especially towards people of color. I want correct the harsher sentences given to black offenders and bring an end to for profit private prisons.
  • Reparations: I believe reparations will help repair the harm created by a slave economy and Jim Crow policies, which created a legalized economic depression for African Americans.
I am passionate about making sure that this society values the humanity of people of African descent. That has not been the case. THIS is the essence of the Black Lives Matter movement. I am passionate about creating a society where everyone has a seat at the table, where everyone benefits from making the words "Of the people, by the people and for the people" an actuality and not just words on paper.

I am passionate about finding ways to do things differently, finding new, more effective ways to address the issues that confound us. The old ways are not working. We have to change the way we look at politics and our expectation of politicians. We need public servants to bring a different skillset to the table. My background is as a sociologist and community advocate. I've been out there fighting for our community. I have and will fight for Black people, Latinx people, poor people and the middle class. This is what I bring to the table. When I get elected, the voices of the voiceless will be heard, WE will be at the table collectively. I grew up in South Central Los Angeles, I am a voice for and a man of the people.
