Akron Stools for Schools (2008)
Akron Stools for Schools was on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Summit County for voters in the City of Akron. The measure was proposed by Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic to privatize the city's sewer system. The proceeds from the privatization would be used to generate scholarship money for Akron high school graduates to attend the University of Akron.
Supporters
Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic is the force behind this ballot measure. He says that the plan would assist in slowing brain drain from the city by keeping more high school graduates in the area. He includes a stipulation in the measure that any student receiving the scholarship money must remain in Akron for the following 30 years.[1]
Opponents
Citizens to Save Our Sewers and Water is a coalition of "citizens, labor, faith, and community organizers"[2] organized in opposition to the idea of privatizing the sewer system. The group is fielding a ballot measure of it's own, Save Our Sewers, that seeks to "prevent the sale of any Akron utility without voter approval"[3].

Defeated, 62% to 38%.
