The Alabama Constitutional Change Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the ballot in Alabama on November 5, 2002, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. This measure proposed that any constitution that would replace the current state constitution must be approved by a majority of those voting on the question.[1]

Text of measure

The question on the ballot:

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, providing that any new proposed Constitution of Alabama adopted to replace the existing Constitution of Alabama of 1901, shall become effective only upon its ratification by a majority of the qualified voters voting on such ratification. (Proposed by Act No. 2001-915)[2][3]
