Alabama County Indebtedness, Amendment 45 (1961)

The Alabama County Indebtedness, Amendment 45, also known as Amendment 45, was on the ballot in Alabama on December 5, 1961, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The amendment proposed to amend the constitution. The amendment proposed that Washington County would be authorized to become indebted up to $1 million through the sale of interest-bearing general obligation bonds. An ad valorem tax is authorized as provided in Section 2 of the constitution of the state. The revenue derived from the issue of the above bonds would be for the construction of a courthouse and county jail. The ad valorem tax must first be approved by a majority of electors.[1]
