Alabama County School Tax, Amendment 28 (1961)

The Alabama County School Tax, Amendment 28, also known as Amendment 28, was on the ballot in Alabama on December 5, 1961, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The amendment proposed to amend the constitution. The amendment proposed that Washington County be permitted to levy and collect a tax of 50 cents on each $100 of taxable property in the county. The revenue from the above tax would be for public school purposes only. The tax must be approved by a majority of electors.[1]
