The Alabama Filling Legislative Vacancies Amendment was a proposed constitutional amendment that was not placed by the Alabama Legislature on a 2016 election ballot.

The measure would have provided that legislative vacancies occurring after the end of the third regular session of a legislative quadrennium shall be filled by gubernatorial appointment.[1]

According to Article 18 of the Alabama Constitution, both houses of the Alabama State Legislature are required to pass the bill by a three-fifths or 60 percent vote, in order to send it to the statewide election ballot. In 2016, the Legislature was in session from February 2 through the middle of May. The legislature did not act on the bill.
